PLEASE READ. YOUR LIFE COULD DEPEND ON IT Still at peace with mothers death. God is so good. He made it SO clear she is with Him and Im so happy about that for her. One thing Im still troubled with. (before you rebuke me for being troubled youll recall Jesus was troubled in Spirit a few times.. its ok and necessary to see the grief God sees.) Though I loved Shawnee Mission Hospital (best weve ever been in and weve been in a lot), there were a few doctors that were the mercy killing type. One asked me if she wanted to be resuscitated to which I said yes. She then says you have power of attorney and you can reverse that. I reminded her that power of attorney was to enforce her wishes not to over rule hers and force mine. She quietly left the room. I knew mother had mixed feelings. She wanted them to at least try to revive her. But she didnt want to live forever on a respirator. They dont ask you that, though Im sure you can write it in. They ask if you want to be on a breathing tube.. yes/no. Truth is most people that go on one come off of it. My dad was on a ventilator for 10 days at 86 yrs old and came off of it to live for 1.5 yrs. And yes it was a fruitful time in his life. He committed his life back to Christ then.. rather important. And then there was the Hospice nurse that when told mother wanted to be resuscitated said that woman should NOT be resuscitated. Really? She has the power/wisdom to decide that? Then the last doctor wants to take mother off aggressive medications a day before she died and no ventilator. She says she will become dependent on them. I says she has been dependent on insulin and blood pressure meds for 53 yrs. She argues with me for 20 minutes telling me I am just prolonging her suffering. What quality of life will she have they all say? Of course they are making their judgement on what they determine to be a quality life. So IF you are mentally challenged should we exterminate you because a doctor wouldnt want to live your life? They are above that. They are also above asking God what He thinks about the matter. Hitler here we come is all I can say. Yes, people should have a choice. But should doctors decide that for you? And without praying? I was appalled seeing Belgium passing the euthanasia law to kill terminally ill children. Wonder what the criteria is to qualify. That said, we did take the ventilator off of mother. Her desires were to try to revive her and yet she did not want to be on a ventilator long term. My purpose was to enforce her wishes as power of attorney and we did that. I was still concerned that God have His say in the matter. And if you read my story about how it happened you know HE certainly did have His say. Please pray about this situation. Im at total peace about mothers passing, but deeply grieved about the euthanasia issue. And here we are turning over our health care options to a panel with Obamacare. They will deem who gets care (all about the money) and who does not in extreme situation. NOT GOOD as daddy used to say.
