My name is Michael j0k3r Roberts - 2003 - 2004 Kosovo Force (KFOR) a NATO-led international peacekeeping mission. Dept. of Defense 2006 - 2007 Operation Iraqi Freedom - Dept. of State 2011 - 2012 Operation Enduring Freedom - Dept. Homeland Security I experienced something that has changed my life.... When I look at a veteran who has lost limbs, when I look at a veteran amputee.....I realize that, that could have been me... In 2006 I was returning from Taji, we were in a 3 vehicle convoy, heading back to the baghdad hotel...our compound, ...we hit an IED. The explosion was comparable to that of a claymore mine. I was in the passenger seat, or shotgun seat of an armored GMC ...It was my vehicle that was hit. The explosion hit my door and window, and rocked the vehicle. .............that was a good day because nobody died All veterans gave something...and amputees gave even more. Most of their dreams and desires have been crushed. Some of these men and women will never ever walk again. Amputee veterans dont always get that warm welcome when they return, they don’t get a parade..they don’t get to see their local town standing out along the parade route waving the American flag….cheering their safe return. ...and then the parade dust has settled and cleared, and the town goes home, and life for us, goes on……. for these men and women, they are only beginning to and still figuring out how to move forward with a prosthesis. Alot of them.... dont have, and will never have the freedom to see what they fought for first hand. I believe it is our responsibility to return to these heroic men and women, that parade... On April 4, 2015 - I will embark on a journey for amputee veterans, I will walk... 8276 total miles around the United States. The Longest recorded walk in North America. I will video and record the entire journey. I will interview Americans along the route of travel, and then I will have 5000 copies made and distributed to veterans communities throughout the United States, as well as to units stationed abroad.
