PLEASE SHARE/DISTRIBUTE PLEASE SHARE/DISTRIBUTE The power of the BIG MOUNTAIN elders brought the Navajo Nation Government together with one voice of behalf of the Dine traditional elders from Big Mountain. How critical the Dine language was in this quest. Yes, our language is powerful and holy, as our prayers were answered. A very big shout out war scream for my four Navajo leaders who worked non-stop for many days and offered wisdom and compassion for their BIG MOUNTAIN ELDERS. I like to say thank you the Honorable Pro Tem Speaker of the Navajo Nation Council Lorenzo Bates. the Honorable Council Delegate Dwight Witherspoon, and the Honorable Walther Phelps, and The Honorable Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly. We asked for strong language and strong dialogue on behalf of the Navajo families impacted. A very quick call Tuesday evening to Speaker Pro Tem Lorenzo Bates resulted in quick action in coordinating a retreival of the BIG MOUNTAIN communitys sheep who were confiscated by the heavily armed Hopi Rangers and federal S.W.A.T. teams. That evening instantly Delegate Dwight Witherspoon visited the Black Rock area of Big Mountain to assist in identifying the proper course of action. Council Delegate Walter Phelps immediately began contacting and meeting B.I.A. federal officials about the tense situation and the threatening way the Hopi Rangers and Federal law enforcement imposed their impoundment on Navajo elders, families, and children. Under the guidance of Pro Tem Lorenzo Bates who called checking in on the situation on many occasions, as he was very concerned about the situation. These Navajo leaders exhibited great due deligence and concern for their elders. These three Council Delegates worked very hard, negotiated, and successfully paid the impoundment fees from Hopi Range officials, and getting Navajo Nation Stock trailers to assist the Biog Mountain families retrieve their livestock. These Council Delegates brought the Navajo President Ben Shely, the Navajo Attorney General to address the Big Mountain communities and families. The navajo Nation President, the Navajo Attorney General, and the Navajo Nation Council pledged to work together as one voice in their meetings withe Hopi Tribe and B.I.A. officials.Later yesterday afternoon President Ben Shelly invited the Big Mountain elders into his office to hear the concerns of the livestock owners and pledge his support in for the Navajo families impacted. We also keep applying pressure for the Navajo Nation leaders to continue their course of action. We will be supporting these leaders efforts in speaking on behalf of the families of Big Mountain. They also know we have the support of many national and international organizations willing to create a call to action. navajotimes/navajo-hopi-land-commission-steps-livestock-fray/#.VFOjgPnF_uJ
