PLEASE SHARE OUR STANCE - DOMESTIC ABUSE Procedures for dealing with Domestic Abuse have evolved considerably over recent times. This enables a more robust approach in ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the support they deserve when faced with the trauma of Domestic Abuse. Swift, decisive action will be taken to conclude enquiries and place perpetrators before the courts. EDINBURGHS DOMESTIC ABUSE INVESTIGATION UNIT - DAIU Our officers work in plain clothes, are trained investigators and are responsible for targeting serious repeat offenders, ensure victim safety and review all reports of a domestic nature. Detective Inspector Dougie Moran leads Edinburghs DAIU, which comprises of 15 Police officers who work 7 days a week. Edinburgh DAIU offers a wide, diverse range of help and is also responsible for incidents of Honour Based Violence and will investigate historic reports of domestic abuse and perpetrators who have systematically abused more than one partner over a period of years. The ability of Police Scotland to tackle Domestic Abuse is enhanced by ongoing development of multi-agency partnerships. From February 2015, Edinburgh will operate Domestic Abuse Courts, which will deal with all domestic crimes and improve services to victims. Edinburgh has over 5000 reports of a domestic nature each year and the police currently solves over 80% of all domestic abuse crimes reported to them. If you are in immediate danger call 999.
