PLEASE SHARE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN NSW A line of lightning active storms is moving through NSW and far Southern Qld at the moment. these storms are moving fast and some very high gust of wind have been recorded in areas. I do not expect much around Warwick but if you are over the border then prepare now as these storms could be dangerous. TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WIND For people in parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast District. Issued at 2:03 pm Sunday, 16 March 2014. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Stanthorpe and Texas. A 93km/h wind gust was recorded at Glen Innes (NSW) at 2:00pm from the same line of thunderstorms extending into Queensland. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 5:05 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe), a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly. SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WIND and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in the Mid North Coast, Hunter, North West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands and parts of the Northern Rivers, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains and Upper Western Forecast Districts. Issued at 2:45 pm Sunday, 16 March 2014. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Short periods of intense rainfall is also likely in thunderstorms. Locations which may be affected include Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Gosford, Armidale, Tamworth and Moree. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Metropolitan district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. A gust of 109km/h was recorded at Murrurundi Gap at 2:03pm. A gust of 91 km/h was recorded at Scone at 1:48pm. A gust of 90km/h was recorded at Terrey Hills (Sydney) at 12:33pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 5:45 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in Sydney Newcastle Wollongong or surrounding areas, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly. DETAILED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WIND For people in parts of the Greater Newcastle and Maitland/Cessnock areas. Issued at 2:20 pm Sunday, 16 March 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:15 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the Singleton district. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Nelson Bay, Medowie and Karuah by 3:15 pm. Damaging winds are likely. A short period of intense rainfall is also possible. This storm produced a gust of 91km/h at Scone Airport at 1:48pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
