The mothers are shot in their forest homes and their infants kidnapped, sold into bondage to be made into safari park entertainment clowns, commercial zoo attractions or the playthings of wealthy rich people. CITES is supposed to prevent this, yet CITES permits are used to perpetrate this slave trade. Please allow these permits to be examined to find those involved so that Article VIII of the Convention can be put in force. The guilty parties should be prosecuted and the apes should be set free in appropriate facilities.”
