The truth is a world away from the highly misleading PR propagated by the institute. ◕The investigation carried out at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen-Germany uncovered the brutal way in which the lives of monkeys were controlled and manipulated in cruel experiments. ◕The monkeys were subjected to immense suffering through the use of severe water deprivation, physical coercion and restraint. They underwent major surgery to have devices implanted in their skulls and were then held rigid for hours in ‘primate chairs’ inside dark chambers to carry out repetitive tests. It is a living nightmare and death will be their only escape.. ✦THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED: ★-Monkeys were deprived of water for days, and became so dehydrated they were observed licking any remnants of moisture off the bars of their cages, while others, so desperately thirsty resorted to drinking their ▬►own urine.!!! ★-Monkeys had hard plastic collars with a metal ring continuously fastened around their necks so that a metal pole could be used to forcibly remove monkeys from their cages. ★-Monkeys were forced to recover from sedation with their heads severely restrained by a neck clamp in a cruel “training” device designed by the laboratory. ★-Monkeys were subjected to major head surgery during which head posts and recording or injection chambers were surgically implanted into their skulls. ★-Monkeys suffered nasty bleeding head wounds. For some, their head wounds became infected, including with MRSA. This resulted in further pain and suffering. ★-Monkeys were forced to endure hours confined in an unnatural and rigid position in a primate ‘chair’. With their heads immobilised by a post implanted into their skulls, their bodies immobilised by the chair, they were unable to provide any relief from cramping of muscles or even to scratch themselves if they had an itch. ★-Water deprived monkeys were imprisoned inside small dark and soundproofed testing chambers in the primate ‘chair’ for up to 5 hours a day, 5 days a week and forced to perform mundane tasks over and over again in order to obtain small amounts of fluid. ★-Some monkeys had been at the laboratory for years. One individual called Lumpi, arrived in 2007. He lived on his own in a cage and displayed severe stereotypic behaviour, including circling, pacing and weaving. The wounds continued to irritate for days after the surgery; some became infected with MRSA resulting in further suffering and discomfort. Those with infected head wounds were regularly sedated to have the ‘head chambers’ cleaned, a distressing and gruelling routine inflicted on the monkeys. After weeks or sometimes months, they were killed, so their brains could be removed from their skulls and examined; their lives cut short - death truly was their only escape.
