Cookie is 10 years old and her world has been turned upside down. Though she was found as a stray its clear from her good weight and lush, thick coat that until very recently this quiet beauty was a pet and the loss of her family has left her a bit out of sorts. She nibbles the treats I place on her bed and allows me to gently leash her with no issue but is initially resistant to face petting and doesnt want to dress up for her pictures. We enter the yard and she uses the bathroom immediately, walking like a champ and so easy to handle I feel like Im strolling beside a cloud. After we spend some quiet off-leash time together Cookie begins to open up, relaxing enough for me to tie a bandanna around her neck and gently wagging her tail as I pet her side. Time for our photo shoot! She is so well-trained and sits obediently for a treat or simply because I ask, getting up only when an interesting person or dog walks by. Cookie prefers a slow approach but she does seek out human companionship and is happy to let a passing staff member caress her head and body. When greeting other dogs shes calm and polite, remaining seated and just watching them or getting up to perk her pointy ears and give a little tail wag. Cookie is an endearing girl with a beautiful, resilient spirit and all she asks of you is patience. The joy of helping a frightened dog learn to trust again is like no other and watching Cookie warm up to me and those around her was one of the highlights of my day. Just imagine how wonderful it will be to witness her full transformation into the confident and open-hearted pet she was meant to be. A volunteer writes: Cookie has relaxed so much in the last few days and now shes happy to see me, coming to her kennel door and immediately allowing me to pet her all over as her tail gently wags back and forth. Once were outside she stands calmly so I can button a pretty scarf around her neck and, as always, she sits on command before gently mouthing treats from my hand. Best of all, when I lean my head close to hers she surprises me with some gentle kisses, so sweet!
