PLSG DEMOLISHES BUILDINGS AT JOS INLAND CONTAINER DEPOT HEIPANG. The Jos Metropolitan Development Board, JMDB on Tuesday made good its threat to demolish two structures...the gate house and main administrative block under construction by a concessionaire company DUNCAN MARITIME, with the nigerian shippers council as the implementation agency. Backed by a detachment of armed to the teeth mobile policemen from Mopol 8,the security agents arrived the site followed by the trailer carrying the bulldozer and officials of the board. After a four hour exercise, the two structures laid grounded as staff of the construction watched helplessly but with memories of their dream project recorded in handsets, cameras and video tape. The demolition took place despite the granting of an interlocutory injunction granted by the federal high court in jos and pasted on the buildings which the JMDB officials led by the director town planning kefas john ignored saying he had orders from above. Mr Kefas refused to comment on the action and referred newsmen to the general manager,Gambo wuyep,a retired army general who he described as the team leader of the demolition despite his absence at the scene of the exercise. Coordinator of the shippers council and supervisor of the project, Bali Parbong expresed shock at the incident saying he would report to the council headquaters in ABUJA. In 2006 the federal Government entered an agreement with duncan maritime to develop an inland container depot in heipang jos under a build own operate and transfer arrangement and acquired the land for the project covered by CERTIFICATE OF OCCPANCY no 33 AT THE FEERAL LANDS REGISTRY IKOYI LAGOS. In february this year JMDB sent a letter to the construction company to remove its structures from the land and marked the two buildings with a stop work notice,while general Gambo Wuyep in company of some policemen sometime in march stormed the site promising to pull down the buildings. Last Friday,the board mobilised to the site to carry out the exercise but youths of Heipang mobilised and obstructed the demolition after which it was gathered that they were mobilised n conscientised to keep off as the directive was from their son Governor Jonah Jang and the kept away
