PML-F vows to fight legal battle for PS-81 The Pakistan Muslim League-Functional says it will fight a legal battle against the high court’s decision to stay the PS-81 Sanghar by-election result according to which the party’s candidate, Jam Madad Ali, had emerged victorious. Jam Madad Ali had won the by-election defeating Pakistan People’s Party’s Asghar Junaid Junejo by only 373 votes. The by-election had to be held after the PPP MPA-elect Muhammad Khan Junejo was disqualified for having a fake degree. The re-polling was conducted under the supervision of army and Rangers. The result was challenged by the PPP candidate in the Sindh High Court and a stay order was issued. “We will knock the doors of the Supreme Court. The chief election commissioner in connivance with the PPP changed the result. Election commission officials also raided the office in Sanghar to seize ballot boxes and other election material so that the result could be changed,” Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, the PML-F general secretary, said at a press conference at the party’s secretariat on Saturday accompanied by Jam Madad Ali and other party members. Sheikh said the SHC had restrained the election commission from issuing the result of the PS-81 by-election. “Unfortunately, the court without listening to the other side issued its orders. We will approach the Supreme Court and demand that stern notice is taken,” said Sheikh. Law and order Sheikh noted that the provincial government had failed to bring the law and order situation in Karachi under control and should convene an assembly session to discuss the problem. “The government should come up with a concrete plan for restoring peace in the city, especially in Lyari. We are ready to offer our services for this purpose,” he added. “The government calling an all parties conference is an exercise in futility and the decision to attend it will be taken by PML-F chief Pir Pagara.” Sheikh pointed out that all parties conferences held in the past had failed to produce any worthwhile results and proved to be a waste of time. “The PML-F does not have enough members in the provincial assembly to submit a requisition for a session, but will support the Muttahida Qaumi Movement if does that for restoring peace in the city.” To a question, Sheikh said Sindh faced an acute shortage of water because of the inefficiency of the irrigation department. He asked the chief minister to hand over the case of illegal appointment of teachers to the National Accountability Bureau. “The government should also immediately hold the local government elections so that power can be transferred to the masses.”
