PNC, the Pittsburgh-based bank originally founded by local Quakers in the mid-19th century but now the fifth largest bank in the country, has been targeted by Quaker environmental activists due to their financing of mountaintop removal and other environmentally disastrous policies. Faced with repeated protests and acts of civil disobedience in Pennsylvania, PNC has decided to move their annual shareholder meeting to Florida. My dear friend Carolyn McCoy gave a press briefing outside PNC headquarters today, promising ongoing nonviolent direct action until the bank ends its support for mountaintop removal.
