Kellogg Foundation Announces Family Engagement Grants The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has announced grants totaling $13.7 million to nonprofit organizations working to develop and implement transformative family engagement programs in the field of early childhood education. Grants were awarded to thirty nonprofits that share the foundations commitment to family engagement — which the foundation defines as a shared responsibility between families, schools, and communities for student learning and achievement. Selected from a pool of 1,130 applicants — a record for the foundation — the recipients include the Sitka Tribe of Alaska; Amistades Inc. in Tucson; the Clarkston Development Foundation in Clarkston, Georgia; Community Organizing and Family Issues in Chicago; the Institute for Sustainable Economic, Educational and Environmental Design (I-SEEED) in Oakland; Kansas Families and Schools Together, Inc. in Topeka; OneAmerica in Seattle; and Teaching for Change in Washington, D.C. All too often families are not at the table when it comes time to make major decisions impacting their childrens education, said Carla Thompson, vice president for program strategy at WKKF. These organizations recognize that family engagement is a core strategy connected to improving learning outcomes and are working tirelessly to lift up the voices of families in an effort to set all children on a path to success.
