PRESCOTT NATIONAL FOREST NEWS RELEASE Prescott National Forest, 344 South Cortez Street, Prescott, AZ 86303 fs.usda.gov/prescott For Immediate Release Contact: Debbie Maneely January XX, 2015 928-443-8130 Thinning Operation Near Iron Springs PRESCOTT, AZ (January XX, 2015) – Beginning this week and continuing for approximately 2 months, a contractor working on the Prescott National Forest will be using heavy equipment to thin trees on 367 acres between Iron Springs Road and Thumb Butte Road. In order to protect the safety of the public, access to this area will be prohibited until operations are complete, per Temporary Closure Order 09-221. The 332 Trailhead located on Iron Springs Road will be closed during this period of time. Numerous signs have been posted to make trail users aware of the closure. The intent of the project is to improve the health and resiliency of fire-adapted ecosystems while simultaneously reducing hazardous fuels that pose a threat to life and property in the Wildland-Urban Interface. Until the Closure Order is lifted, estimated to be in early April, Forest Managers recommend that visitors take advantage of recreation opportunities in the Granite Basin Recreation Area or Thumb Butte Day Use Area.
