PNG always claim to be geographically, strategic location as the gateway between Asia and the Pacific but does that really turn into benefits? Do we benefit from our airspace, our sea routes? I am wondering if we have for last 38 years really seen any benefits interms- of monetary- economic, trade and other forms of security and political benefits. Knowning half of Pacific falls under US- Indonesia stands as Australias stepping stone into Asia- PNG does it stand as stepping stone to pacific? It seems Australia sees PNG as PNG and the Pacific. Reality is Fiji is more of a strategic importance to west interest in pacific. We really need to mature out of too many domestic crap to capture many opportunties and benefits we overlook.
