PNG needs a reformation of mindset. (not the government )Right now it seems that the big multimillion projects are the answer to our financial and social problems. However it is not. All the jobs are concentrated in the resource areas and the owners live overseas. It becomes a magnet, that attracts urban migration. Many go there with the expectation of a job and find there is not enough to go around so they resort buai business. We need to focus on the Small Medium Business (SME) across the nation. Hypothetically, say if 21 small business across the provincial centres, and each of them hired 21 employees. that is 22 jobs (including the owner). If they have 3 dependants, that is 66 lives supported. However it should start with creative and entrepreneur minded people. Look for the gap/problem in your area that needs a solution. The function of the Government through the National Development Bank (NDB), should fund this entrepreneurs. All loans shall pass the NDB loan criteria. When we have jobs across the country, it will slow down urban migration and social issues we see in Port Moresby and Lae. We should promote any political Party that will go into election with the promise to promote SME across the country.
