POEA issued ten reminders for OFWs to avoid illegal recruitment: 1) Apply only at POEA-licensed recruitment agencies 2) Deal only with licensed agencies with POEA-approved job orders 3) Transact only with authorized representative(s) of licensed agncy 4) Transact business only inside the registered address of the agency; in job fairs, check for Special Recruitment Authority issued by POEA 5) Pay only allowed placement fee equivalent to one month salary 6) Placement fee should be paid after signing a contract and demand an official receipt. 7) Be wary of attractive internet job offers requiring immediate remittance of fees that should be shouldered by employers like intended visa, airfare, and processing cost. 8) Be wary of ads or brochures requiring reply to post office (P.O.) box numbers with enclosed payment for application forms and processing of papers. 9) Accept overseas job offers using employment or work visa not tourist visa. 10) Transact directly with government offices instead of fixers.
