POEM IN HONOR OF BARON FINN GRIM AND BARON FAUNUS DE ARDEN OF THE BARON OF DRAGON’S MIST IN THE KINGDOM OF ANTIR FOR THEIR FRIENDSHIP TO THE BARONY OF GYLDENHOLT THIS LAST GYLDENHOLT UNBELTED TOURNEY AND PAST The Barony of Dragons Mist in The Kingdom of An Tir has been a friend to our barony on a number of occasions. In reciprocity: A BALLADE “NOW FRIENDS ARE FRIENDS, THEY HAVE NO QUARTERED PART” Now friends are friends they have no quartered part, Though shields divide by pales and tincture’s lot, There are no bends to keep a heart from heart, Divisions die, when Amity is wrought. Though chiefs and eagles stay where they are caught, In Heraldry, on board and banner fair, No border stands the cordials from their lot, But hearts entwine, that find a friendship, rare. So friends are friends, that greet a counterpart, Though leagues and lands and weather’s freezing shot, Keep cozened souls and circlets far apart, As trees withhold the farthest apricot; But friends and Barons know what they have bought, If coins conjoin so north and south may share, The shared acacias bloom in tender thought, If hearts entwine, that find a friendship rare. And noble Finn and Faunus made the start, To set their bands by ours in sweet complot, And Giles and Giuseppe signed the carte, Of Brotherhood, that nary bears a blot. Some winters past, the valiant Finn had fought, In beltless cuirass, sword as swift as hare, Stunning comers in our tourney, hot, Our lands entwined, to find a friendship rare. So friends are friends, and Faunus did impart, Felicities that noble men are taught, He scorned Aeolus-he whose spears dispart, The fearing clouds, with humors overwrought. In time the skies were tempered, as they ought, And northern words becalmed the southern air, For Dragon Friends, the worst of winds, unknot, And hearts entwine, that find a friendship rare. Envoi The winds and wends, they come, and come to naught, And over distance, treasured friends will dare, Now Dragons Mist and Gyldenholt have got, A brace of hearts: entwined, in friendship, rare.
