POEM MYSTERY WAR By Abdullahi Suleiman Otiwe We had sailed in the ship collectively Until you came in tempest and liberate shipwreck With your civilian uniform of rescue Holding the Key to our eternal jail Irrigating our rivers to your subsistence farm Impregnating our dreams on the palm trees In the night you turned to mosquitoes of our bed In the morning we waked in grief malaria We have fought the unbrotherly War Bringing glory at noon but our War is with us The zigzag line run across our heads We remain circled in afflictions When is dawn in bundle, we wail in bondage Perusing the pamphlet; I saw the Hens soaked in their palm oil Yet no Chibok speared by the butchers And our saviors listened with deaf ears But we are the Foes that bring your pleasure If war we must have, make me the warrior Killing myself; killing them all But where are our slained fellows? Permit the cock to crow, day is breaking If Saracens they are; make the truth plain Time is sick, save the future days We need the truth be told The future is bleeding.
