POEMS ARE ACTIONS? Every time the poets use words to tell us what they feel within themselves they make their portrait It may be lonely, individuated ephemeral life reaching out beyond the self to tell the other people: who they are, what they feel, what they share with others And in doing so they but reach out to their outer self to bridge the chasm between the isolate lone self and all other persons in the world Every poem has its origin in silence moves through words or speech or contact – and ends in a form of mute monologue or dialogue Poems are actions, though ‘they make nothing happen’ in a bid to reach across the gap of silence they communicate to the wider audience (Yayati)
