POLICE DETAIN FATHER AFTER FAILING TO ARREST SON Police on Saturday allegedly detained father of an alleged stone pelter in Anantnag district, a day after the south Kashmir Township witnessed protests against the visit of Prime Minister, Narinder Modi’s to the Valley. Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, a former Range Officer, was allegedly detained from his house in New Colony, Shirpora area of the town by police this morning, family told Kashmir Reader Saturday. Sheikh, was allegedly detained after police failed to arrest his son Atif, who has been accused of participating in Friday’s protests in the town. Sheikh, the family said, was detained at the Police Post Janglat Mandi for at least six hours and released only on the condition that he’ll bring his son to the police post soon. “I got several calls from duty officer, Janglat Mandi since Friday. He asked me to report to the police post. However, I sought some time because I was busy with my business in wake of the ongoing Yatra,” Atif, told Kashmir Reader over phone. However, without waiting for him to turn up, Atif said, police raided his house around 10 am today and detained his father. He alleged that during six hour detention, his father was subjected to humiliation. “Police has made it a routine to book me in false cases. Every year, they slap different charges upon me and send me to jail. Since 2008, they have left no chance to harass me.,” he said. Earlier, he said, a duty officer booked him on ‘concocted charges’ when he confronted him before the court. However, police contested Atif’s claims and said that his father was not detained Station House Officer (SHO) Anantnag, Adil denied that Sheikh was detained by the police. However, the cops, he said, might have called him for questioning. “If we had to detain him, we would have done it. This is a false allegation,” he said.
