POLICE MUST STOP CAPRIVI VIOLATIONS I say, comrades, the officer commanding the Namibian Police in occupied Caprivi Strip yesterday attempted to disrupt the peaceful information sharing meetings of the Caprivi Concerned Group (CCG). The Police Regional Commander in Caprivi, a certain Mukendwa, allegedly claimed that he had received instructions from Namibian Police Inspector General, Cde Sebastian Ndeitunga, to disrupt CCG meetings at the Liselo and Cow Boy villages some 10 kilometers outside the Caprivi capital of Katima Mulilo. CCG conducts regular information sharing meetings intended create public awareness about inter alia the right of the Caprivi people to self determination and national independence through a referendum under the auspices of the international community. Articles 17 and 95(k) of the Namibian Constitution guarantee the enjoyment of inter alia the right of engagement in peaceful political activities intended influence the policies of the government, while Article 21 of the said Constitution guarantee a whole spectrum of fundamental rights, which include not least the freedoms of opinion and expression, peaceable assembly, association and movement! In light of the above, both Omkwanekamba (i.e. I, Phil ya Nangoloh) and NamRights strongly condemn any and all human rights violations in rhe Caprivi Strip! NamRights is of the strong opinion that Namibia s occupation of Caprivu Strip is illegal and must come to an immediate end!
