POLICY STATEMENT - I would like to begin by stating that the role of VP Social Justice is fundamentally about the law student body, and therefore I believe this portfolio must reflect the diversity of law students at UNSW Law. For these reasons, my vision is to develop and expand the following: CONSOLIDATED ENGAGMENT: I will work towards creating a robust network of diverse students involved in this portfolio. I am committed to transparency in decision making and believe in maximising all students involvement equally in making decisions. This engagement also extends beyond the student body, to enhancing communicating with the law school staff and external stakeholders. LAW REFORM: It is important we continue to challenge the law and I will pursue the government submissions initiated in 2014. I commend the 2014 portfolio particularly on their submission against the proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth). INITIATIVES/ ACTIVITIES: By process of consolidated engagement as stated above, I will lead the social justice portfolio to inject new energy in the current activities and promote greater student participation. My aim is to cultivate a stronger vision among students towards social justice careers and take on board any new proposals by law students. In closing, I wish to state - whether you belong to a majority or minority group, SOCIAL JUSTICE MATTERS TO YOU! WE MUST REALISE THE PRIVILEGE WE HAVE TO STUDY A UNIQUE DISCIPLINE AT AUSTRALIAS LEADING SOCIAL JUSTICE LAW SCHOOL, AND PURSUE OUR LEGAL FURTURE WITH THIS IN MIND.
