POLITICS , MONEY AND SECURITY-----It started when somalia collapsed in 1991,the pro Barre forces ,relatives,friends et al started streaming across the border, then with time they flooded over the border.And its been like this ever since then.Somali somalis will cross into kenya without any hindrance whatsoever other than the occasional police roadblock which more times than not has aided their entry into Kenya at a fee than impede it. It is big business--the immigration,police,landlords,the politicians------quite a few get their votes from these somali somalis who hold kenyan ids .When terrorists began setting off bombs in the country they upset an otherwise very lucrative business.The government must clean up the mess of previous governments and this is a tall order because chief officers of this government were also chief officers in the previous regimes and what is most likely bound to happen is instead of a crackdown and a clean up we will have a cover up,genuine refugees who are usually poor and destitute will be herded back to Somalia whence they came, while the real problem for both somali and Kenya governments which is the well heeled somali somalis who finance the chaos in their country and here in kenya will remain because they have the resources and connections to do so.
