POLITICS is being played for getting Sikh detainees released from jails whose sentences can be reduced in order to secure their liberty by the various governments. All the players know that there is a general stay on release of any life convict by any State Government by the Honble Supreme Court of India in the matter of release of assassins of Rajiv Gandhi, when they were ordered to be released by Jaya Lalita, the then C.M of Tamil Nadu. The Union of India challenged the release through Writ Petition No 48 of 2014 titled UNION OF INDIA Versus SRIHARAN @ MURUGAN & OTHERS and the Supreme Court through its constitutional bench of 5 Judges headed by the Chief Justice of India passed the below orders on 9-7-2014 :- Having regard to the observations made in para 49 of the referal order, we are of the view that notice may be issued to all the state governments. Let notice be issued to all the state governments through their standing counsel representing them in the Supreme Court. Notice is made returnable on July 18, 2014. List the matter before the constitutional bench on July 22, 2014. In the meanwhile, the state Governments are restrained from exercising power of remission to life convicts. So the only alternative is to knock the doors of Supreme Court of India to facilitate the release of the Sikh detainees.Though the chances of the Supreme Court of India relaxing its orders are very remote, but the Punjab Government should not play politics and mislead innocent citizens...........As release of any Sikh detainee in the coming times is not possible.
