POLY STRIKES: TWO DOWN, JUST ONE MORE TO GO! After ASUP suspends its strike, SSANIP has also suspended theirs. It now remains NASU! ____________ "SSANIP SUSPENDS STRIKE" - DAILY TIMES The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) on Friday suspended its indefinite strike which started since April. Mr Adebanjo Ogunsipe, the National Publicity Secretary of SSANIP, said that the suspension was to allow the Federal Government to look into the union’s outstanding demands. Ogunsipe said on telephone that the union took the decision at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja. He said that the NEC had directed the union’s members to resume work on Monday. He said that the Federal Government had resolved some issues that led to the strike, including constitution of governing councils and release of the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS 15) circular. Ogunsipe said that SSANIP’s outstanding demands included the release of a government white paper on visitation panels, review of the subsisting scheme of service and establishment of a polytechnic commission. ``It has been decided that the ongoing industrial action be suspended for two months to allow the government to look into our remaining demands. We want to thank all lovers of education in the country, particularly the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) for their supportive roles while the strike lasted,” he said. ____________ Central to the reasons why SSANIP embark on its strike 3 months ago include: ::> Refusal of the Government to fulfill its agreement with the Union since 2010 ::> Need for the setting up of National Polytechnic Commission (NPC) to replace NBTE ::> Demands Federal Government to end discrimination against HND Holders ::> Demand for the immediate payment of Contiss 15 arreas ::> Rejection of the Integrated Personnel & Payroll Information System (IPPIS) ::> Increase funding of Polytechnic Education in Nigeria ----------------
