POLYFEST SEASON. And no time to waste :D For 6 years ive been teaching Samoan groups and I love watching the kids grow and learn to love their culture. Alot of them come in with very little knowledge on pacific dance & sometimes they dont realise the importance of song and dance and the role it plays in our Pasifika culture. They leave singing four part harmonies, doing sasa combos and they leave feeling satisfied with the fact that they know where certain dances originate from, what they mean and why we perform them. (I am blessed to have been taught by samoan masters of dance such as Carol Taale, Satuala Vitale, Charlene Tedrow, Olivia Taouma, Pita Papalii Taouma, & of course the Toleafoa-Moe family). Because of their generosity and patience I am now able to pass this knowledge on to younger generations. The polyfest journey is not about winning but celebrating culture, and its always rewarding seeing the final product. Ive always been scared to do this on the Niue stage because i use to consider myself plastic and have always listened to bad mouth niueans and allowed them to call me plastic (FLASHBACK TO POLYFEST 2009 HAHAHA!)... Im a little bit older now and Its time to pick up my nuts and take ownership of who i am because its in my blood... This year Im excited to finally do something on the Niue stage.... I dont know if itll work but at the end of the day at least i can say i tried lol... Thanks to my cousin Tamm-Kingi Falakoa for the push hahaha.. Lets go Niue stage, be nice to me please dahaha... (dont worry epsom girls samoan group im not leaving you ill still be around to yell at you for your fringes lol) #WatchThisSpace #NoBuildUps #NiuYearNiuWayyLol #HaterOrCreator #BabySteps
