POOL WATER EVAPORATION Water evaporation can sometimes be confused with a pool leak. Some homeowners cant believe their pool water evaporates. Yes its true. Believe it or not. A big misconception over natural evaporation is that water evaporates faster during the summer. Factors affecting the speed by which water evaporates are temperature (sun or pool water heater), wind and the amount of water vapor currently in the air. Some homeowners in Florida enjoy using their pool spa in the winter and of course the heater will have to be used. The water temperature will cause evaporation to increase. Windy days will also cause the rate of evaporation to increase. As the wind blows it changes the maximum vapor pressure of the air. The air will continue to suck up water until it reaches the maximum saturation point. The saturation point changes with temperature. The higher the temperature, the higher the saturation point. There are a couple of ways to determine if your pool has a leak. One is to mark the water level with a piece of electrical tape or duct tape. The other test is the bucket test. For a more detail explanation of the bucket test, click here leak-squad/services/bucket-test/. It is common to lose approximately 1/4 inch of water in a 24 hr period during the winter months here in Florida. As the weather stays dry, water will continue to evaporate. So dont panic if you notice the water level in your pool is getting lower little by little. If you do believe your pool has a leak do not hesitate to contact us at SharKool Pools today!
