POPE FRANCIS IN MALACAñAN PALACE - HIGHLIGHTS Pope Francis goes to the Presidential Malacañan Palace in Manila, 16 January 2015 for his state & pastoral visit. Pope Francis called on the Philippine government to tackle corruption & hear the cries of the poor suffering from scandalous social inequalities in Asias most Catholic country. Pope Francis delivers his speech with the introduction : I thank you Mr. President for your kind welcome. I am most grateful for your invitation to visit the Philippines, said the pontiff. Pope Francis cites the fifth centennial anniversary of Catholicism in the Philippines, saying that he hopes the milestone will result in continuing faithfulness & to inspire society worthy of devoutness, dignity & aspirations. Pope Francis lauds Filipino resilience - I have admired the heroic strength, faith & resilience demonstrated by so many Filipinos in the face of natural disasters & so many others, he said. Most importantly, Pope Francis calls on Filipinos to reject corruption : I hope this will challenge everyone at all levels of society to reject every form of corruption which divert the resource for the poor, said Pope Francis. Lastly, Pope Francis wishes blessings for the Philippines : goodness, abundance, & blessings for the country. Before ending his visit at Malacañan Palace, Pope Francis gives an apostolic blessing to those inside the Rizal Hall.
