POPLARVILLE - Kids in Poplarville should have a fun, new way to cool off this summer with the addition of a splash pad or spray pool at City Park. The Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation and the Rotary Club of Poplarville presented a check for $59,113 to city officials Wednesday, Jan. 14, for construction of the water feature. “When groups like these come together for a community, it introduces great things for everyone and, in this case, a recreational splash pad for everyone to enjoy,” Poplarville Mayor Brad Necaise said. The play area will be 1,250 square feet with various types of water-spray features. Officials hope to have the splash pad ready for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in May or June. “The Rotary Club motto is “Service Above Self’,” said club president Steve Reid. “Each year, the Rotary Club takes on a community service project. The idea of a splash pad was formulated in July.” When talking with Necaise, Reid and club members discovered city officials were already trying to find a way to afford to install a water play area. “This facility will enable children to have fun while they are getting valuable exercise,” said Sid Whitley, foundation chief executive officer.
