POSITION: Sr. Systems Specialist GROUP: Data Center Operations - Technical Services DEPARTMENT: Technology & Product Engineering Work timings: 5:30 PM IST to 2:30 AM IST (8AM - 5PM EST) POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves lending support to Time Inc.’s Information Technology Team along with those of its subsidiaries in terms of The Data Center Operations group in Tampa, FL, which is charged with monitoring IT systems for optimum availability. The department is fully staffed around the clock, 365 days a year. System consoles for all supported platforms are constantly monitored to ensure all IT resources are available to the user community. Additionally, the team is charged with process improvement, procedural documentation, and Data Center statistical reporting. PRIMARY RESPOSIBILITIES: Under general guidance of a manager, relies on extensive experience, wide technical knowledge, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Install, customize, implement, and take full advantage of the operating system or major subsystem in an IBM mainframe environment Provide 24x7 on-call system support using pager or cell phone provided by company Detects, report, analyze, diagnose, and resolve related system problems Coordinate activities to diagnose and resolve complicated cross technology problems Maintain state of the art knowledge of zOS operating system or major subsystem Provide skill transfer to staff. Working independently, build customized project plans; or use pre-established project and communication templates to build project plans; develop project task list, establish milestones and target dates, facilitate meetings, and execute assigned project tasks. Using good judgment, escalate political/sensitive issues of projects to manager Develop and manage cross department/division/company projects Provide consultation on complex projects. Provide periodic status reports on projects and tasks as determined by supervisor or manager Assist other departments, divisions, and companies is the use of the operating system, major subsystem, ISV products, and other system components POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Programming experience in a MVS/OS390/zOS/zVM environment or 10 years zOS systems programming experience Experience supporting zOS in a parallel sysplex on IBM System z Rounded understanding of the zOS operating system and its major subsystem Experience installing and supporting a wide range of ISV vendors and their software on zOS Expert experience building and maintaining System z hardware definition (IODEF) Strong ability to work with others in a team environment Ability to work independently to meet personal and departmental goals Ability to use business analysis techniques to determine user requirements Ability to be on call 24x7 to support system software products POSITION PREFERENCES: Support of zOS running CICS & DB2 Support of IBM’s zOS support products like System Automation, Omegamon/Tivoli performance and monitoring tools, Tivoli Output Manager. Qualifications: Bachelor or Associate degree in/or related to Computer Science Professional Certifications (Preferable but not mandatory)
