In panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing. After lunch the next day, Grandma said, Sally, lets wash the dishes. But Sally said, Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen. Then she whispered to him, Remember the duck? So Johnny did the dishes. Later that day, grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and grandma said, Im sorry but I need Sally to help make supper. Sally just smiled and said, Well thats all right because Johnny told me he wanted to help. She whispered again, Remember the duck? So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help. After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sallys, he finally couldnt stand it any longer. He came to grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you. SOMETHING TO PONDER ON: Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done, be it lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad habits, anger, bitterness, immorality, hatred; etc, the devil will keep throwing at you, to remind you that you are no good, and you don’t deserve any other life than your former self....whatever it is.... You need to remember that Jesus has paid the price in full. You are forgiven. Your past misdeeds have been wiped off. Completely! Forgotten and forgiven! You need to know that God was standing at the window of your life and He saw the whole thing..... He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven. Hes just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you. The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness, He not only forgives you, but He forgets. It is by Gods grace and mercy that we are saved. Go ahead and make a difference in someones life today. We’ve come to realize that we can’t live without You but the unbeliever feels he or she has no need for You. It seems we’re worlds apart in our outlook. Use this passage from Jude to speak to our hearts about applying Your mercy to those who are not of the faith. They do not see through eyes of faith, but are blinded to spiritual truth. Jude also reminds us that while we must embrace the sinner in mercy and love, we must never embrace or endorse the sin. The allurement to sin is always before us, so we ask You to keep us safe. Do not let us deceive ourselves, but show us how to set up safeguards, while reaching out to those who are in sin’s entrapment. She could see her little girl holding the string to the kite but the kite itself was not visible. The mother approached the girl and said, I dont see your kite, I am afraid you have lost it. The small child looked into her mother’s face and said no I didn’t lose it, I know because I can still feel it when I tug on the strings that the kite is attached to. This story reflects the same way I feel when it comes to my own faith. That is, I may not be able to see God, but I feel my Lord when He tugs at the strings of my heart by way of my senses. So when I allow myself to reach out and touch a person, smell a flower, see the blue sky, hear soothing music, or simply taste life giving food and water it is then, my five senses, like the string to the kite are connected to the greatest supreme being of all. His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldnt exist. His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic. For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him. Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation. At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus, stand. In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, Because anyone who believes in God is a fool. If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He cant do it. And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces. All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare. Most of the students thought that God couldnt exist. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up. Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll. He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor. He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought. Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith ... he hoped. Finally, the day came. The professor said, If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up! The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom. The professor shouted, You FOOL!!! He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see. This is a fun way to share the Christian message! It would be great to use around Halloween or Fall. 1. Take a pumpkin. You arent a pumpkin, but all of us are something like one. God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you may have gotten from the other pumpkins. Talk about how a pumpkin is like us: it has an outside and an inside. The outside is what people see. The inside is like our soul or our heart. A pumpkin left to itself will soon rot and die. We will die some day too. 2. Carve out eyes and a small o shaped mouth. As you make the holes and pull out the pieces of rind, ask people what they see inside (yucky stuff). This is what we look like to others and what we are like when are hearts are not changed. The hearts of men are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live (Ecclesiastes 9:3). How can we get rid of this icky stuff? 3. God is the only one who can change our heart. But in order for God to change our heart we must become open to him. Carve an opening in the top of the pumpkin big enough to put your hand through. You might want to quote Revelation 3:20: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 4. Put in your hand and pull out the insides. God scoops out all the yucky stuff inside of us. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, impurity, and greed. Talk about the cross and how Jesus was willing to become messy for us, so that we might be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36:25b-27). 5. But if we leave a pumpkin with just the insides taken out, then its just hollow. We need to have a light inside that will truly make us alive! Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Add a light to the inside of the pumpkin. When Jesus lives inside of you, you can glow! You will want to be kind and honest. You will want to please God, to help others, and to tell other people about your Friend and Lord. 6. At this point you might want to carve the mouth into a smile!
