POST BULLETIN: COMMISSIONERS SAY KEYSTONE COPS COMPLAINT DOES NOT WARRANT INVESTIGATION The Rochester Post Bulletin requested a response from our campaign regarding the Dodge County Commissioners statement indicating the State of Minnesotas Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board determined that the magazine complaint did not warrant an investigation. I have included the link below to the Post Bulletin. The following was my response to their reporter regarding my position with the Sheriffs Office and the false allegations: I’m an investigator. My direct supervisor is the Sheriff. My job is to investigate alleged crimes. Often, people who are the subject of a criminal investigation get upset by the process; that’s just human nature. When it comes to subpoenas and search warrants, any good investigator is going to request as much information as possible. It’s up to the County Attorney’s Office and/or Judge to approve it. Our job is to uncover the truth. Any allegations of wrong-doing in my department are investigated by the Sheriff, by an outside agency, by the County Attorney’s Office, and/or by the State. I have never had a disciplinary action in my file and certainly have never been accused of corruption. In fact, on the contrary, I received a very positive performance review in June 2014 from the Sheriff in which he noted that I am an asset to the investigations department. I think the Commissioners did a great job at simply stating the fact that the allegations described in the magazine did not warrant an investigation by the Minnesota Lawyers’ Professional Responsibility Board. In other words – there was no illegal investigation, no illegal subpoena, and no fabricated insurance fraud case. I’m proud of the work the men and women do at the Sheriff’s Office. I’m proud of the work done by our County Attorney’s Office. The magazine article is both a political attack and an attempt by the author to help his friends in Dodge County. We’re talking about a nearly 2 year old Dodge County, Minnesota closed criminal case being featured in a small quarterly Wisconsin hunting and fishing magazine. While it would be very interesting to find out who financed the county-wide distribution of this magazine and what their connection is to this election, I refuse to focus any attention on smear politics. From day one my campaign’s primary focus has been on the issues and that will continue to be the case until November 4th. There was one misquote in the paper that they are correcting tomorrow that implied the commissioners said they were considering an investigation -- when in fact they said the state determined the complaint did not warrant an investigation. The Post Bulletin editor was great in recognizing this mistake right away and corrected it online. A correction in their paper will be printed in the weekend edition. This campaign is ready to get past the politics and focus on the issues we face with our department -- including recognizing the importance of having a Sheriff that will edify and defend his/her staff when they are falsely accused. Got a busy 81 days ahead of us!!!! Thanks as always for all your support!!!! Time for door knocking!! Well see you soon!!! Have a GREAT weekend!!!!
