POST GRAD TRAVEL (repost from a while ago) POST GRADUATION TRAVEL: Trainees are either Regular Army or National Guard; if you do not know which component is applicable, ask your loved one. All travel by all graduates will be arranged and paid for by Uncle Sam. National Guard (NG): Option 1: The NG Soldiers will get on a bus to the Atlanta airport IMMEDIATELY after the graduation ceremony. They will fly home that day. The government picks up the tab. Option 2: A NG Soldier can opt out of the government funded travel and make his own travel plans; the Soldier is responsible for footing the bill. Yes, he can go home with Mom, girlfriend, boyfriend or by means of any travel arrangement he makes. But, the government will NOT pay for it. The bottom line, he will be released after the graduation ceremony and can go wherever he wants, except back to the barracks. Regular Army (RA): There are multiple courses of action for RA. I am not going to address them; each trainee must communicate his situation to his loved one. There are factors which are common to most graduates. All travel arrangements will be made PRIOR to the graduation ceremony; the men will be taken care of. They will no longer be a part of Echo Company after the graduation ceremony. The government will provide each Soldier will his travel arrangements; no parent or loved one will need to make any travel plans for a graduate. 99% of graduates not attending Airborne school will want to leave Fort Benning and Columbus, GA immediately following the graduation ceremony. I do not recommend that visitors book non-refundable accommodation and travel without consulting with the Soldier first. Lastly, Soldiers are responsible for contacting their loved ones. They will have access to phones every night this week after dinner chow. The Company Commander and I are excited to see the Soldiers graduate and ship out to their next assignment. Have a great week. – 1SG Jarvis
