This is what the Catalans are saying, and I heard this said, again and again, when I went there in March and walked the streets of Barcelona. Centuries of misrule and cultural and linguistic oppression must be a lesson for the Philippines, the country born out of the same wrong imagination of an oppressing class from a hegemonic center. Long before there was ever Madrid, there was Catalan. Now, let us see the parallelisms: long before there ever was da Filipins, there was Indung Kapampangan, there was the Ilocos, there was the Bikol, there was the Visayan nation. Long before there ever was Manila, there were those bangsa around in Mindanao. Ah, da Filipins is NOT thinking at all. The education and language and culture technocrats have it all wrong, and you name them: under the guise of their da Filipins, they are ramming down our throats their Manila culture, Manila language, and Manila deceptions. Let us see where freedom will lead us. To the Catalans: you get there and show us the way. WPH/
