POST-SABBATICAL NOTES. 20 SEPT 2014. SAT. N2. Floating/flying university--or how to do clandestine work for our peoples. I DO NOT know--ever--what Harvey Fiji does not know. But every time he makes a commentary on what one writes, like this post of our Mike Pangilinan on his Indung Kapampangan, Harvey just produced a la Houdini the better one a document that narrates of the Polish technique of sustaining the Polish resistance against what was then perceived as the Germanization of Poland. I confess: I did not know about this flying/floating university thing. But here is what Harvey has found out for our education. And edification. Flying University (Polish: Uniwersytet Latający, less often translated as Floating University) was an underground educational enterprise that operated from 1885 to 1905 in Warsaw, the historic Polish capital, then under the control of the Russian Empire, and that was revived between 1977 and 1981 in the Peoples Republic of Poland. The purpose of this and similar institutions was to provide Polish youth with an opportunity for an education within the framework of traditional Polish scholarship, when that collided with the ideology of the governing authorities. In the 19th century, such underground institutions were important in the national effort to resist Germanization under Prussian and Russification under Russian occupation. In the communist Peoples Republic of Poland, the Flying University provided educational opportunities outside government censorship and control of education. We need to resist our Tagalogization courtesy of KWF, Deped, Tesda, and Ched. And ABS-CBN and GMA and Malacañan. WPH/
