POSTBAG BIRTHDAY PARTIES AT NURSERY Editor, I wish to register my disappointment with the manner nursery and pre-schools conduct themselves over the so-called birthday parties. My 4-year-old son is at a school here in Chipata, Eastern Province. I can’t take the stress of contributing money every week for birthday parties since the children in his class are many. Children are now slowly getting traumatised because of the way they are mentally treated by some inconsiderate teachers when they fail to contribute. It’s practically imposible to hold a birthday party for every child as many children from poor families will be disadvantaged. The non-contributors will be watching others eating, drinking and playing happily. My son came home crying one day; he had had neither a drink nor food because I forgot to pay/contribute for him that week. Can the education authorities please put a stop to this? Let birthday parties be held at home for parents who can afford them. Concerned parent
