**POTENTIAL FOR A MAJOR WINTER STORM FOR PORTIONS OF WEST TENNESSEE** Despite a wedge of warm moist air, which will keep us cloudy with temperatures above normal through Thursday, an arctic cold front will enter the northwest corner of the state Thursday and push eastward. Behind the front, a sharp drop to generally sub-freezing temperatures can be expected over West Tennessee. A considerable amount of moisture will overrun the shallow arctic air mass, resulting in rain, freezing rain, sleet and some snow. Right now, it looks like a significant ice storm could develop over portions of West Tennessee, generally along and north of I-40 and west of a Clarskville to Dickson line. This would also include the cities of Memphis, Jackson and Dyersburg. Significant icing is likely, with amounts more than 1/4 of an inch. Some sleet is also likely and precipitation could end as some snow Friday night. More details will follow tomorrow as we approach this weather event.
