POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: Officials with Camp Lejeunes public works - TopicsExpress

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: Officials with Camp Lejeunes public works division are attempting to redistribute the bases electrical power load among various substations today in order to stabilize the power grid after a substation supplying power to areas along Brewster Boulevard was temporarily overloaded earlier this morning, knocking out power to the Naval Hospital and housing and infrastructure to include Camp Lejeune Dependent Schools, along Stone Street, Seth Williams Blvd. and Midway Park. Camp Lejeune District Schools Superintendent Dr. Aldridge Boone elected to cancel classes today in order to reduce the power demand and allow electrical workers the ability to rebalance the grid to better position it to deal with colder temperatures in the future. The Naval Hospital is currently operating on backup generators and staff there are urging anyone having an appointment today to reschedule. Public works officials are speculating the additional housing construction, street lights, and hospital expansion this past year combined with the exceptionally cold weather likely contributed to the overload. At this time, the superintendent is anticipating Camp Lejeune District schools will open on time tomorrow. More to follow.
