PP&Rs Mt. Scott Community Center hosted the 4th Native American - TopicsExpress

PP&Rs Mt. Scott Community Center hosted the 4th Native American Family Day & Marketplace on Saturday, Nov 1! The annual event, open to the public, provides an opportunity for the large Native community in the Portland area to become more familiar with our centers and of the programming we offer. The event was attended by nearly 300 people, with representatives from more than 25 tribes! Parents and kids got to participate in free activities like swimming and roller skating as well as crafts sponsored by our PP&R Native American Community Advisory Council (NACAC). This was the second year for the Marketplace and the vendors (more than 15) said they had a very successful day. The Bow and Arrow Culture Club sold delicious Indian Tacos and Fry Bread as a fundraiser for the Delta Park Pow Wow which PP&R partially sponsors. 89% of our guests had never attended our Native Family Day event before. Only one in six had ever taken a class, were aware that we hire teens for our summer programs or participated in our Free Learn to Swim lessons. The NACAC has taken great steps to bring awareness of our parks and programs to the Native community and will continue to do so.
