PPP condemns police brutality in Faisalabad LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary Information Qamar Zaman Kaira has lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, accusing him of employing brutal tactics to suppress civil liberties. He was criticising the chief minister over the Faisalabad incident where police beat up citizens who had been protesting against power outages. Kaira claimed the heavy-handednes s of Punjab police reflected the way Shahbaz Sharif wanted to govern over the next five years. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, PPP leader said that the Punjab chief minister should live up to words and lead the citizens protesting against load shedding. Kaira said peaceful protest was the fundamental right of the public and the use of brutal force against the protesters was condemnable and contemptible. He said Punjab was not a police state where police could violate people’s privacy and beat-up women inside their homes. He said that the calling for reports within 24 hours by the Punjab chief minister was not good enough. He abhorred the comments of Rana Sanaullah who he claimed had shifted the blame on protesters and justified police brutality.
