PRAISE GEMS Monday, June 16, 2014 Prob/ Ovr. Kwasi Asante Annor Theme: The Costly Mistake Text: Ruth 1:1-5 I want to begin a series on the book of Ruth. Ruth is one of the saddest books in the bible but has a glorious ending. It gives us the picture that no matter how bad our stories are, God can rewrite our them again. There is famine in the land of Bethlehem and a couple makes a major move which backfires and comes with dire repercussions. It is just like Fernando Torres move from Liverpool to Chelsea which was a total flop. From the passage, Elimelech which means God is King forgets that God has the ability to meet all his needs in a pleasant way but choose his man-made option. He moves his entire household from Bethlehem(House of Bread) to Moab (Land of Curse). Listen, beloved, the fact that it looks right does not mean it is right (Prov.14:12) Moreover, what do you do when the going gets tough? What choices do you make in times of crisis(Isaiah 31:1-3). In Moab, Elimelech and his sons died leaving three (3) distraught widows-Naomi, Ruth and Orpah. Beloved, this morning I just want to draw our attention on the need for us to look before we leap. Probably by now you are asking was it good to have entered that marriage, accepted that proposal, signed that contract, endorsed that deal or received that help. It has become a costly mistake and the consequences may be stirring in your face but there is hope in Jesus name. Job said that there is hope for a tree even if it is cut short, at the scent of water, it will sprout again(Job 14:7-9) Water can sometimes symbolically represent the word of God. This week I pray that Gods water becomes the life-giving water for every costly mistake made. May the word absorb the effect of any terrible condition and make you smile again in Jesus name. SONG God will make a way where there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see. He will make a way for me He will be my guide, hold me closely to his side With love and strength for each new day, he will make a way By a roadway in the wilderness, he leads me Rivers in the desert will I see Heaven and earth will fail but his word will still remain and he will do something new today. #AbsoluteWorship #20DaysMore #EmPraiseInc #July6th #NationalTheatre
