PRAY FOR OUR ABILITY TO ADAPT TO A CULTURAL SHIFT This Thursday, 4 September, 11:55 PM, Cynde and I will board an airplane taking us to Oregon and California, USA for six weeks. Were looking forward to spending time with family, friends and many of you who pray for us and support us financially to keep us in Cambodia doing Gods work here. However, pray that we can adjust to the cultural shift of moving from a Developing Country to a Modern Country. You see, here in Cambodia I have an LG Smart phone and can pick up free wi-fi internet in just about any place in Cambodia - including petrol stations, all coffee shops and restaurants and even laundry facilities! However, in the USA Ill have limited access to free wi-fi. My data plan here is $5 per month; I use it a lot and never run out of time each month. There is gasoline for our car or motorcycle literally within meters of just about anywhere in Cambodia. Its easy to get around because there are motorcycle taxis all over the country, even in the provincial villages, who will take us anywhere we want for a couple dollars. In the U.S. we have no car and if it wasnt for Randy Counts of Eugene, who is loaning us a car, it would be a real challenge for us to get around. The ease of getting around in Cambodia as compared to the U.S.A is a real cultural change for us. Bottled water is another cultural change. Here we an get purified water anywhere...literally just on every corner, for 25 cents. In the U.S. I have to pay $2.50. (Which I wont pay, by the way.) Were also buying the clothes we need here as they are much less expensive. Its rough living in a Developing Country, so again, we ask for prayers on helping us make the needed cultural adjustments to visiting such a modern country like the United States. However, it does show that those who support us financially are getting a real good deal! Its much less expensive to live in Cambodia than the U.S.A. Your dollar goes much further! I will say its humbling and awkward for us missionaries to live off of someone elses dollar rather than earning our own way. Thank you for supporting Cynde and I on a monthly basis and for those who support us on an occassional basis. We hope we can at least have a brief meeting with you. Were have friends trying to arrange a fellowship time in the Eugene Area the evening of September 19. The same in the Yuba City Area sometime on Sunday, October 12. We hope to see some of you.
