Quote: Fri Jul 11, 2014 4:0 Iran, Philippines Keen to Expand Bilateral Ties During the meeting in the Philippine capital today, the Iranian ambassador and the chairman of Philippine chamber of commerce and industry explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation, specially in economic field. Mohammadi and Alfredo also called for enhanced cooperation between the two countries private sectors. The Iranian envoy pointed to 50 years of Iran-Philippines diplomatic relations, and underlined the need to encourage further participation of the two countries private sectors. In the meantime, the Iranian envoy presented an invitation letter by chairman of Irans Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture, Gholam-Hossein Shafeyee to his Filipino counterpart to visit Iran. The Philippine official, for his part, hailed Irans special status in the international arena and called for more efforts by both sides to give a boost to cooperation between chambers of commerce of both nations. The two sides also reviewed potentials for further cooperation between the two countries in different areas, including energy, petrochemical industry, agriculture, transportation, tourism, and banking sector. Bilateral relations between the Philippines and Iran started on August 16, 1974. In 2008, Iran invested $125mln in the Philippines petrochemical market. Both countries are eyeing to increase cooperation in areas of tourism, food production and industries, energy, construction, technology, science, sports and culture.
