PREFERENCES OR CONVICTIONS? ~ “But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your CONVICTIONS. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.” (Rom.14:23- NLT) ~ “Forget about deciding what’s right for each other. Here’s what you need to be concerned about: that you don’t get in the way of someone else, making life more difficult than it already is. I’m convinced-Jesus convinced me!-that everything as it is in itself is holy. We, of course, by the way we treat it or talk about it, can contaminate it.” (Rom.14:13-14) The question is: “WHATS THE DIFFERENCE IN A PREFERENCE AND A CONVICTION? ~ PREFERENCE - A choice one makes and feel strongly about based on culture and information that have influenced your life. Preferences, however, are altered and changed during our life, because of new understanding and (A preference allows for others choices.) ~ CONVICTION - That, for which you are willing to die! (A conviction is based on a definitive, conclusive truth.) ~ For too long, we have thought of our “preferences” as “convictions” and thus, walls have gone up in the Body of Christ, over personal choices, style of worship, denominational doctrine – over many things not based on Biblical truth. Thus, we separate on matters over which our Heavenly Father never intended His children to be divided. ~ In Romans 14, we read, “Forget about deciding what’s right for each other!” ~ Wouldn’t you agree that it’s time we “Make room in our hearts for others” - and our differences (2Corinthians.7:2-3). ~ The Outrageous Life is a life of convictions in Biblical truth, but a life that “makes allowance for each others differences, because of love.” (Eph.4:2) (Check out my web site for more on this subject.
