PRELIMINARY response from Cork Daily Post on Facebook, is that budget is one for the rich. Now is the time to develop, upgrade, abandoned homes and, get state support and, tax incentives for money makers. It was also very much a Simon Coveney, future leader, budget, with windfall for the agriculture sector. But, the vast majority of the nation, on the poverty line, have got cents towards meeting, potentially, huge water charges and, property tax. Social Welfare recipients, old aged, will get a €50 Christmas present but, if they like a cigarette, that will disappear quickly. Really the water charge is the major issue for the nation and, an otherwise, Noonan and, Howlin well factored budget, has just not delivered to a nation rising against them. We were reminded, we are helping, Syria, Palastine, Gaza and, overseas peace keeping, we can expect more gardai and, civil servants but, not a word for hard pressed nursing in health sector. The country has done well in past two years and, top rate taxpayers can expect a cut in the rate. But, as poor, water charges, property tax victims, digest, you must ask, was this not just, a very good budget for rich Fine Gael supporters.
