PREMIER LEAGUE: HULL CITY 0-0 WEST BROMWICH ALBION December 6, 2014 23:00 Kingston Communications Stadium, Hull Referee: M. Oliver My name is Ben Cullimore and its been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you today. Until next time, goodbye! A, quite frankly, poor game is finally brought to an end by the referee, and neither side will be happy with the point, as a win was desperately needed by both. Hulls search for a Premier League victory goes on, and they are now without a win in their last eight games heading into what is sure to be a tough game against the league leaders Chelsea in a weeks time. Queens Park Rangers 2-0 win against Burnley today also means that Steve Bruces side drop into the relegation zone in 18th place, whilst West Brom, who have now only managed to pick up one point in their last five league games, remain in 16th place for another week. FULL-TIME: HULL CITY 0-0 WEST BROMWICH ALBION 90 + 2 Varela finds himself in plenty of space just outside of the Hull penalty area on the left flank, and, as a result, he decides to fire a curling shot from 20 yards out. It looks to be heading for the bottom right hand corner of the goal but McGregor does well to keep it out with a good diving save. 90 Yellow Card Youssouf Mulumbu Mulumbu lunges into Meyler recklessly, resulting in a yellow card for the West Brom midfielder and a free kick for Hull. 90 The fourth official has indicated that there will be three minutes of added time. 89 Ideye and Berahino link up well on the edge of the penalty area, but the former is unable to find a way past Chester, who puts in a great last-ditch interception to win the ball back for the hosts. 87 Wisdom pushes forward on one of West Broms first attacks in almost 15 minutes, darting down the right wing before sending a cross towards the edge of the six-yard box, but its dealt with well Dawson. 85 Hull are bossing possession and pushing as many bodies forward as possible in an attempt to find a late winner but, as has been the case for the majority of the game, they are finding it incredibly difficult to beat the West Brom defence. 83 Huddlestone bursts down the left flank before curling a lovely cross into the heart of the penalty area, where it finds the head of Jelavic, but, stretching backwards in an attempt to reach it, the Croatian striker sends it bouncing well wide of the goal. 81 Huddlestone finds himself in plenty of space 25 yards out before deciding to unleash a fierce low shot, but its poorly struck and ends up flying a few yards wide of the far post. 80 Substitution Craig Gardner B. Ideye And now West Brom have made their final change of the game, with Ideye coming on to take the place of Gardner, meaning that both teams now have two strikers up front as they search for a late winning goal. 79 What a chance for Hernandez! The free kick is curled into the penalty area, where it finds the Uruguayan striker, but he ends up sending his looping header just wide of the near post. 77 Substitution S. Aluko Nikica Jelavic Hull have decided to make their final substitution of the afternoon, and its an attacking one, with Jelavic coming on to replace Aluko. 75 A poor challenge from Morrison on Huddlestone results in a free kick for Hull in a dangerous position 30 yards out. 73 Substitution Victor Anichebe Saido Berahino With little under 20 minutes left to play, Berahino has come on to replace Anichebe, who is not happy at all about being brought off by Alan Irvine. 71 Great save by McGregor! Gardner unleashes a fierce shot from the resulting set-piece that is saved wonderfully well by the Hull goalkeeper. 70 Huddlestone clumsily brings down Gardner from behind, resulting in a free kick for West Brom in a very dangerous position just a few yards outside of the penalty area. 68 A poor clearance from Foster gifts Hull the opportunity to break away quickly, but Brady ends up drifting offside, bringing an end to a good chance for the hosts. 67 Substitution Stéphane Sessegnon Silvestre Varela Sessegnon is brought off to be replaced by Varela, which the West Brom fans arent happy about at all. 65 Anichebe picks up the ball midway inside the Hull half of the pitch and tries to dart into the penalty area, but Dawson is there to stop him with a good interception. 63 Livermore and Hernandez link up well before the former tries to set up the latter with a deft through-ball, but its poorly hit and Lescott is easily able to clear the danger. 61 Substitution Liam Rosenior Robbie Brady And the second is Brady, who takes the place of Rosenior. 60 Substitution Stephen Quinn Andrew Robertson Hull have decided to make a double substitution with half-an-hour left to play. The first player to come on is Robertson, who replaces Quinn. 59 Great save by Foster! Livermore bursts forward before curling a lovely cross into the heart of the penalty area, where it finds Quinn. The Irishman meets the ball with his head and forces the West Brom goalkeeper into pulling off an acrobatic diving stop. 58 Lovely build-up play from West Brom ends with Mulumbu just outside of the penalty area, but, off balance, hes unable to lift the ball over the top of the hosts defence and into the path of Anichebe. Instead, his wayward pass returns possession to Hull. 56 Yellow Card David Meyler Meyler lunges dangerously into Gardner, resulting in a yellow card for the Hull midfielder. 56 Quinn and Rosenior link up well on the left flank before the latter tries to whip a quick cross into the box towards Aluko, but it ends up taking a slight deflection that sends it away from the Nigerian and into the feet of McAuley, who then clears the ball. 54 Both sides are battling for the ball in the middle of the pitch, where play is a bit sloppy and neither team are finding it possible to string together many passes. 52 Meyler sets up Aluko with a lovely through-ball, but a poor first touch from the Nigerian ends up sending the ball out for a goal kick. He then goes down, claiming that he was pushed to the ground by Lescott, but the referee is uninterested. 50 Dawson heads the ball forward to Aluko, who twists and turns around two West Brom defenders 25 yards out before unleashing a low shot that, like Hernandezs effort a few minutes ago, ends up going well wide of the goal. 48 Hernandez picks up the ball just outside of the West Brom penalty area before twisting around and firing a shot towards the bottom left hand corner of the goal, but his effort ends up rolling well wide of the far post. 46 And were underway once again! The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch, with just a few moments to go until kick-off. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break. Its been a relatively even first half, with neither side being able to carve out any real chances at either end of the pitch. However, Hull have arguably been the better of the two sides, but a great shift put in by the West Brom defence, coupled with frustrating performances from Aluko and Hernandez, means that Foster has had barely anything to deal with during the opening 45 minutes. The visitors only chance came from the penalty spot after Anichebe was brought down by Livermore, but a poor spot-kick from Dorrans means that the two sides go into the half-time break with it all to play for in the second half. HALF-TIME: HULL CITY 0-0 WEST BROMWICH ALBION 45 The fourth official has indicated that there will be one minute of added time. 43 The hosts try to break away down the left wing through Rosenior, but Mulumbu does well to drop back and, alongside Wisdom, force the Hull defender into losing possession. 41 The corner is cleared away from immediate danger by the Hull defence but the ball eventually finds its way out to the right flank, where its then whipped back into the penalty area by Wisdom. McGregor jumps high and is brought crashing to the ground by Anichebe, resulting in a free kick for Hull, much to the West Brom strikers disgust. 39 Wisdom darts down the right flank and beats Quinn before cutting the ball back towards Dorrans, but Aluko is there to fire the ball out for a corner before its able to meet the West Brom midfielder. 37 Both sides are taking it in turns to enjoy good spells of possession, but neither are finding themselves able to get any decent shots away on goal as both sets of defences hold firm. 35 El Mohamady curls a lovely cross towards the edge of the West Brom penalty area, where it finds Hernandez. He tries to go for goal with his head but his effort ends up bouncing well wide of Fosters far post. 33 Hull try to work their way down the right flank through Meyler and El Mohamady but Pocognoli ends up winning the ball back for West Brom with a good interception near the corner flag. 31 Rosenior is blocked off by Mulumbu and Hull are awarded a free kick on the left flank. Its curled in well but the West Brom defence are easily able to deal with the danger before they are awarded a free kick of their own after Quinn brings down Pocognoli from behind. 29 West Brom patiently pass the ball around just outside of the Hull penalty area but they are unable to find an opening and, as a result, the hosts end up winning back possession on the right flank after Wisdom holds onto the ball for too long. 27 Sessegnon is brought down from behind by Dawson, resulting in a free kick for West Brom midway inside the Hull half of the pitch. The resulting set-piece is fired into the box by Dorrans, where it finds McAuley, but the defender is unable to head the ball down into the path of Anichebe. 25 Gardner breaks forward before teeing up Anichebe, but Hull are back in numbers and West Brom are unable to find a way through just outside of the penalty area. 23 Aluko picks up the ball midway inside the West Brom half of the pitch before trying to send a pass through to Hernandez, but its overhit and misplaced and ends up bouncing out for a goal kick. 21 Hull are enjoying the vast majority of possession at the moment but are finding it incredibly difficult to find a way past the sea of white and blue shirts in front of them. 19 El Mohamady fires a dangerous cross into the West Brom penalty area from midway inside the visitors half of the pitch, but its headed away by Lescott before Wisdom thumps the ball back towards the halfway line. 17 West Brom push forward in numbers in an attempt to find a way through Hulls resolute back line but are unable to do so, and, as a result, the hosts regain possession once again. 15 Pocognoli slides in to dispossess El Mohamady, resulting in a throw-in for Hull near the corner flag. The Egyptian throws the ball to Aluko before receiving it back again, but he brings the attack to a premature end with a poor cross that is easily dealt with by McAuley. 13 The resulting set-piece is whipped into the penalty area, where it finds Mulumbu, and he unleashes a fierce volley that hits Huddlestone on the arm. The West Brom players appeal for a penalty but the referee shakes his head and waves play on. 11 Morrison threads a lovely ball into the path of Anichebe, who uses his strength to turn around Chester before sending a low shot towards goal that ends up deflecting off the aforementioned defender and out of play for a corner. 9 Penalty save Allan McGregor SAVE! Dorrans tries to fire the resulting penalty into the bottom right hand corner of the goal but McGregor guesses right, diving acrobatically to his left before parrying the ball away from danger. 9 Missed Penalty Graham Dorrans 9 PENALTY! Again, Anichebe appeals for a penalty and this time the referee awards one! The striker tries to muscle his way past Livermore but is wrestled to the ground clumsily by the midfielder, leaving Michael Oliver no choice but to point to the spot. 8 Great play by Hull! Meyler fires a brilliant low cross into the heart of the six-yard box but it ends up missing the outstretched foot of Hernandez by a few agonising inches. 6 Hull push forward on their first attack of the game and end up earning themselves a corner. Its whipped in low by Quinn but fails to beat Anichebe at the near post. 4 Anichebe is seemingly pulled to the ground by Dawson just inside the Hull penalty area but, somehow, the referee ends up awarding a free kick to the hosts instead of a penalty to West Brom, leaving the Nigerian striker furious and exasperated. 3 After an even start for both sides, West Brom try to break away through the middle of the pitch quickly, but the Hull defence hold firm to keep the visitors at bay. 1 And were off! West Brom get us underway, attacking from right to left. -The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off. -Meanwhile, West Brom boss Alan Irvine has made four changes to the side that lost 2-1 against West Ham United in their last Premier League outing, with Gareth McAuley, Sebastien Pocognoli, Youssouf Mulumbu and James Morrison replacing Craig Dawson, Chris Baird, Chris Brunt and Saido Berahino. -Steve Bruce has made made one change to the Hull side that started the 1-1 draw against Everton during the week, with Sone Aluko coming into the squad to replace Mohamed Diame. -West Bromwich Albion substitutes: Myhill, Baird, Gamboa, Dawson, Varela, Ideye, Berahino. -West Bromwich Albion XI (4-4-2): Foster; Wisdom, Lescott, McAuley, Pocognoli; Dorrans, Gardner, Mulumbu, Morrison; Sessegnon, Anichebe. -Hull City substitutes: Jakupovic, Bruce, Robertson, Davies, Brady, Sagbo, Jelavic. -Hull City XI (4-4-2): McGregor; Rosenior, Chester, Dawson, Meyler; El Mohamady, Huddlestone, Livermore, Quinn; Aluko, Hernandez. -Theres just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so lets have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon… -As for West Brom, they too are struggling, with all of their last four Premier League games ending in defeat, leaving them just one point clear of Hull in 16th place. Those games have been against tough opponents, however, with all four of the victors currently sitting in the top half of the table, and todays clash against a side in equally bad form gives Alan Irvines men a great chance of picking up three much-needed points ahead of two equally important games against Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers in their last two clashes before Christmas. -Its safe to say that its been a torrid first third of the season for Steve Bruce, whose side go into todays must-win clash just outside of the relegation zone in 17th place, albeit equal on points with 18th-place Burnley, after failing to win any of their last seven Premier League games. In that time, Hull have picked up just three points, leaving them in real danger of dropping into the relegation zone by the end of the weekend if they are unable to turn their form around here today. Chelsea and Swansea City are their next two opponents in the run up to Christmas, meaning that a victory today is an absolute must for a side that are looking increasingly troubled as the season goes on. -Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of todays Premier League game between Hull City and West Bromwich Albion. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from the KC Stadium.
