PREPARED ELECTRICITY ROLL OUT PROGRESES WELL Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has managed to convert 58 417 out of 80 045 households to prepared electricity usage from the post-paid system. BPC customer services supply director, Mr Gordon Molène told a media conference recently that the project was 73 per cent complete and expected to be complete by September 30. Mr Molène said specific towns such as Lobatse and Jwaneng were leading the pack at 99.9 per cent, followed by Francistown at 89 per cent, Selebi Phikwe 68 per cent and Gaborone at 65 per cent. He, however acknowledged some challenges throughout the project implementation such as finding houses locked and some owners denying BPC employees to enter their premises. On one hand, BCP chief executive officer, Mr Jacob Raleru told the media that there were no tariff differences between electricity bought at their offices and those bought from vendors. Mr Raleru explained that the only difference was in buying electricity exceeding 200KWh in the same month. He added that they engaged vendors to augment services provided by the BPC throughout the country.vThe press conference also brought some vendors to share their experiences in providing such services to the BPC customers. One Mr Walter Mosweu of BotswanaPost said their distribution model was based on customer centric pillar of ensuring availability across all their branches. Mr Mosweu said bringing on board sub-vendors to retail product and increase physical distribution of access points developed end user controlled channels, which in turn offered convenient and 24-hour service and availability throughout the country. Other vendors included Sandulela Telecom Botswana, Lowe Trade And Investment, Ideal Prepaid and Qmuzik Technologies (Smartswitch.
