PRESIDENT JONATHAN’S SCORECARD ON RULE OF LAW “...any country that does not abide by the rule of law is a jungle” President Jonathan (January 8, 2015) Under Jonathan, · An estimated 2,500 Nigerians in detention are killed without trial by the police every year according to the Chairman, National Human Rights Commission. · 3 innocent protesters were gruesomely killed by the police during nationwide protest against removal of fuel subsidy in January 2012. · On March 15, 2014, 19 unemployed youths died during the Immigration job recruitment. No investigation was conducted, Minister not queried, promises to the families of the deceased were not fulfilled. · In the run-up to Osun State Governorship Election, 700 APC supporters were unlawfully arrested and detained till after close of voting. · $20 Billion earned by the Federation as proceeds from the sale of oil was declared missing and not remitted into the Federation Account in violation of Sections 80(1) and 162 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). · Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was unlawfully arrested and detained following his disclosure of the theft of $20 Billion oil revenue. The Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/L/CS/243/2014 held that Jonathan’s government violated human rights and awarded damages against the government in the sum of N50million. The government wilfully disobeyed the judgment of the Court. · The concept of democracy was redefined. The President recognised Jonah Jang as Nigerian Governors Forum Chairman having polled 16 as against Rotimi Amaechi who glaringly scored the majority 19 votes. Again, at the Lagos PDP Governorship Primary Election, 806 voters were accredited and 863 votes counted. Jimi Agbaje emerged the candidate through this manifestly fraudulent process. · The President, acting through the instrumentality of the Police, usurped the power of the Court to interpret the law and withdrew the security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal for defecting to another political party.
