PRESIDENTIAL PROGRAMME FOR GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS PRESS RELEASE: The President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, will on Sunday, 6th July 2014, lead the nation in commemorating the 50th Anniversary Independence Celebrations. The President will, at 07:30hrs attend an Inter-denominational National Service of Worship at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. Professor Mutharika will, then proceed to the Civo Stadium, also in Lilongwe, for the main Golden Jubilee celebrations which start at 11:00hrs. Activities marking the main celebrations will include a joint military parade by the Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Police Service and the Immigration Department. The President, will then inspect a guard of honour before addressing the nation. After the Presidents national address, there will be a lighting of a torch to mark the beginning of another 50 years. This will be followed by youth displays traditional dances and then an international friendly football match between the Malawi and Mozambique.
