PRESS RELEASE 07/12/14 A well attended meeting of Calangute Block Congress Workers was held at Candolim beach Car parking stand which saw presence of thousands of Congress workers of Calangute pledging their support to their leader Shri. Agnelo Fernandes Ex- M.L.A., the meeting was presided over by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri. Luizinho Faleiro and attended by senior Congress workers of the state including Cumbarjua M.L.A. Shri. Pandurang Madkaikar and other office bearers of GPCC also Sarpanch of Candolim Panchayat. Smt.Sandra Fialho along with various other past and present panch members from Calangute Constituency. The Meeting saw Shri. Agnelo Fernandes strongly opposing the plans of the Government of the day especially of the Local MLA Shri. Lobo to bring areas of Calangute and Candolim under PDA which will adversely affect the residents of the areas and the same will only help the builder lobby, he further challenged the local MLA to show a single development proposal initiated by him as it is very clear that all the developemental works undertaken are the ones which were proposed and got cleared by Shri. Agnelo Fernandes himself when he was the MLA, Shri. Fernandes also claimed that the only work done by the local MLA is of widening of roads to help hoteliers especially in Arpora area. Addressing the Congress workers present for the meeting Shri. Pandurand Madkaikar MLA reminded how Shri. Agnelo Fernandes was instrumental in addressing the issue of Taxi operators even though Shri. Fernandes was in opposition at a time when Shri. Madkaikar was a Minister he also shed light on how Shri. Fernandes was instrumental in starting rent a bike service which is today become a key source of income to the local residents, Shri. Madkaikar further criticized the failures of the BJP Government for their continues failures and claimed that a puppet government is being run by some forces from behind the curtains, he also criticized the government for taking U-turns on various critical issues be it Casinos, Regional Plan or Mining and charged that the BJP MLA’s are being paid hafta by the Casino operators who are running the Government, he also raised the issue of how the BJP Government has fooled the poor GRES workers who and demanded justice for them, the Government was also criticized by Shri. Madkaikar for starting various schemes without proper financial provisions due to which many are not receiving benefits. The President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Shri. Luizinho Faleiro started his address to the party workers by humbly accepting the mistakes of the past and once again requested that we should realize that we lacked behind but at the same time stated that it is necessary that we realize that this BJP Government had promised development, they had promised reduction in the increasing costs of living and that the BJP had promised to improve the economic condition of the state but what we are facing today is the worst financial situation of the state which is at its lowest since Liberation primarily because stoppage of Mining for which BJP is solely responsible which is now affecting lakhs of Goans who are suffering. Shri. Faleiro Further exposed the techniques of BJP Government at the centre to rename the schemes started by the erstwhile Congress Government and their attempt to temper with the History for own vested interest of BJP , while explaining how Goa is the highest taxed state with highest per capita loans , Shri. Faleiro also lashed the BJP Government for being the master of U-turns on all fronts and reminded how Parrikar claims 35000 Crore loot in Mining as the then PAC Chairman could not recover a single rupee as a Chief minister, which would have helped Truck owners, Barge owners, mining workers and other dependents if done so. Speaking on the Law and Order situation of the state Shri. Faleiro highlighted the fact that public representatives themselves are not safe in this BJP regime which is supported with the facts that MLA Vishnu Wagh, MLA Subhash Faldesai, and the most recent MLA Michael Lobo were assaulted but till date no arrests have been made, and that robbers and dacoits are enjoying “ Acche din “ when the common Goans are suffering. Shri. Faleiro also highlighted the fake promises the BJP more particularly Prime Minister Shri. Modi had made during election campaigning of bringing back black money which would otherwise fill up accounts of Indians with 15 lakhs each as claimed by Modi himself only to come to power, also the failure of Shri. Modi the Indian prime Minister to curb cease fire violations across the LOC was strongly criticized Finally Shri. Faleiro gave a call for all the Congress workers to come together and to go to people to understand their problems and know their views to serve them better.
